Dangerous Lies

‘Dangerous Lies’ is a 2020 Netflix original thriller that is currently number one on their U.S. today. A broke caregiver and her husband inherit her patients house and wealth after he passes. She has only been working for him for four months, and it puts them under the authorities eye. Everything begins to snowball from there. ‘Dangerous Lies’ stars Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Jessie T Usher (Shaft), Elliott Gould (Friends), Cam Gigandet (Never Back Down), Michael P. Northey (Adventures in Babysitting), and Jamie Chung (Gotham).

Parts of ‘Dangerous Lies’ are pretty predictable, but they do a good job with misdirection and tying it all together in the end. It’s worth the watch. I give it a 7/10.

Extraction

‘Extraction’ is a Netflix original action thriller starring Thor himself , Chris Hemsworth, that has been number 1 on movies for U.S. today since releasing on April 24th. Hemsworth plays a mercenary who is hired and sent to Bangladesh to rescue the kidnapped son of a drug lord. When Hemsworth is double crossed he must fight his way out of Bangladesh to keep himself and the boy alive.

Outside of Hemsworth, ‘Extraction’ stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Golshifteh Farahani (Body of Lies), Randeep Hooda (Highway), and Rudhraksh Jaiswal.

Netflix is known for bringing in blockbuster stars for their original movies, and ‘Extraction’ isn’t any different with Hemsworth. This is an adrenaline rush from start to finish. It’s pretty much a ‘John Wick’ style film but instead of Keanu Reeves you get Chris Hemsworth. It’s definitely worth the watch. I give it a 7/10.

Edge of Fear

Most of the world is quarantined and who isn’t will probably be soon. Movie theaters across the board are closed. So a lot and I mean a lot of people will be binge watching movies on Netflix. So I’m going to talk about ‘Edge of Fear’ a movie currently streaming on Netflix.

‘Edge of Fear’ is an action movie from 2018. After breaking a man out of prison, and left without a ride, they come upon a cabin in the woods. It goes terribly wrong for the people at the cabin, one of the men is stabbed in the chest and left for dead. He must now save his wife from the intruders. ‘Edge of Fear’ stars Rockmond Dunbar (SOA, Prison Break), Zhu Zhu (Man with the Iron Fists), Shen Lin, Robert Knepper (Prison Break, I Zombie), Robert Crayton (Ant-Man), Andy Mackenzie (True Detective), Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (Prison Break), and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2:Judgement Day, X-Files).

I personally love Robert Patrick, I love his role in X-Files as Agent John Doggett. So no matter what I see him in, I see him as Agent Doggett, and I’m going to watch it. The movie starts out as pretty cheesy and it is definitely over the top. A man is wandering around with a knife sticking out of his chest, on the verge of passing out, taking out intruders one by one. However it is a pretty good movie, not believable, but good. You find yourself cheering for the guy, and forget how cheesy it is. If you’re looking for a pretty solid action movie to watch, I suggest this one. I give it 7/10.

Holidays (2016)

‘Holidays’ is a horror anthology film comprised of eight different short horror films each covering a different holiday. The eight films are Valentine’s day, St. Patrick’s day, Easter, Mother’s day, Father’s day, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. I was all ready to give this film a bad review. The still for the movie is a creepy girl, sitting on a bench covered in blood. It looks like your typical, cheesy, over the top, gore fest, low budget horror. From the looks of it, it reminded me a lot of ‘Tales of Halloween,’ another anthology film comprised of ten films covering Halloween. ‘Tales of Halloween’ was cheesy, and just not a good film. I figured however, I would give ‘Holidays’ a chance.

There’s not really any big names associated with ‘Holidays’ other than Kevin Smith directing Halloween, his daughter Harley Quinn Smith staring in her dad’s film, and Seth Green staring in Christmas. That’s about it, so i wasn’t really expecting much on that front.

I’m surprised to say it, but ‘Holidays’ delivered. Each film was pretty good, the writing was good, as well as the acting. Some films were creepier than others, Mother’s Day, and Easter especially. It is honestly one of the creepier horror movies I have watched, and it had me saying wtf more than once. If you’re wanting a creepy horror movie that’s going to make your skin crawl, then check out ‘Holidays’. It’s a solid film as far as horror movies go. I’m going to give it a 7/10.

Get Santa

‘Get Santa’ is a British Christmas comedy from 2014 starring Jim Broadbent, Rafe Spall, Kit Connor, and Wawrick Davis. I stumbled across this one while scrolling through Netflix. Only reason why I chose it was because of Wawrick Davis, he’s a legend in his own right. He’s the Leprechaun in the horror movie series, and has also stared in the Harry Potters and Star Wars franchises. I’ll watch his work anytime I get the chance.

Almost all Christmas movies are the same when boiled down, ‘Elf’, ‘The Santa Clause’, ‘The Christmas Chronicles’, and ‘Get Santa’. Santa gets in a bind, his slay crashes, grown ups don’t believe, Santa winds up in jail, and a kid who believes must save Christmas before it’s too late. All are essentially the same plot, just a different take on it. ‘Get Santa’ holds its own with all them. Acting is good, the movie flows well, the characters are lovable, it’s a Christmas classic in my book. I’ve decided to also start rating the movies on a scale 1-10 to give the readers a better idea how it stacks up. With all being said, ‘Get Santa’ is a 7/10. If you haven’t seen it, it is definitely worth watching this holiday season.
