Pawn Shop Chronicles

“Pawn Shop Chronicles” is a 2013 action/comedy/thriller with an impressive cast starring Paul Walker (The Fast and the Furious), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), Matt Dillion (You, Me and Dupree), Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket), DJ Qualls (The New Guy), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Brendan Fraser (The Whale).

“Pawn Shop Chronicles” is an anthology featuring three different stories revolving around a pawn shop. It features a man who finds his wife’s ring who he believes to be dead, and it results on him going on a wild chase. A meth head who sells his shotgun, and it turns out he needs it. Finally, an Elvis impersonator who is just looking for a lucky break and sells his gold chain that he claims was owned by the King himself.

I haven’t heard of this movie before, but I saw it on Tubi and gave it a shot only because of the loaded cast. I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I didn’t have a bar set going in. The movie and stories are pretty crazy. There’s violence, explosions, blood, and comedy. It even has Brendan Fraser as Elvis, it has it all. All the stories are intertwined, which I always find cool when movies do that. It’s a good hidden gem. I give it a 7/10.

No Man of God

“No Man of God” is a 2021 crime movie starring Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Luke Kirby (A Dog’s Purpose), Aleksa Palladino (Boardwalk Empire), and Robert Patrick (The X-Files). This is based on the true story of FBI agent Bill Hagmaier (Wood), and infamous serial killer Ted Bundy (Kirby).

Bill Hagmaier was one of the first analysists whose job was to profile serial killers in hopes to better understand how killers think and to help create a profile. Hagmaier was the only one Bundy would talk to while in prison, this movie focuses on their interviews and relationship built over the last four years before Bundy was executed.

It’s a very slow burn, it’s basically Elijah Wood and Luke Kirby sitting in an interrogation room for an hour and forty minutes talking. So keep that in mind going in, if you’re looking for a movie with a lot of action in it, this is not it. I have to say this, Luke Kirby plays the best Bundy, I’ve seen. He has his look, mannerisms, speech, everything down. Almost to the point you forget he’s not the real Bundy. Even though there isn’t much action, it’s a great movie, and an interesting watch. I give it an 8/10.

Come to Daddy

‘Come to Daddy’ is a 2019 horror/thriller starring Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Stephen McHattie (Watchmen), Madeleine Sami (The Breaker Upperers), Martin Donovan (Big Little Lies), and Michael Smiley (Luther). Elijah Wood’s character receives a letter from his estranged father who walked out of his life when he was five years old. He takes this as a chance to reconnect with him by going to visit him. Problem is, his dad isn’t what he expected.

I really like Elijah Wood, and Daniel Radcliffe, but it’s not because of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series or the Harry Potter movies. It’s because of all the random insane rolls both take on ever since the movies listed above. I love it, and ‘Come to Daddy’ is no different for Elijah Woods. This movie starts out slow but once you get to the half way point the movie takes off hard. It has one of the bloodiest and most unique on screen kills I’ve seen, and that’s up there with Terrifier’s sawing the naked upside down woman in half. If you love these random Radcliffe and Wood roles like I do, and want to see Wood go ham on some people, then ‘Come to Daddy’ is for you. I give it a 7.5/10.
