Novocaine

“Novocaine” is a 2025 Action/Comedy/Thriller starring Jack Quaid (Companion), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), and Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming).

Nate (Quaid) lives a normal, boring life as an assistant manager at a bank, except for one thing. He has a rare genetic disorder where he doesn’t feel pain, and hot or cold temperatures. While on the clock three masked men come in and rob the bank and take a girl (Midthunder) he likes hostage. Now Nate vows to do whatever it takes to get her back, no matter how much damage his body takes.

After seeing the previews for this one, I knew I had to see it. It’s a unique movie that blends the perfect amount of action, comedy, and violence. The acting is great all the way around. Quaid nails the nerdy white guy superhero part. It reminds me a lot of the movie “Kick-Ass.” It’s a fun watch start to finish. I give it a 9/10.

Companion

“Companion” is a 2025 thriller/comedy starring Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Lukas Gage (You), Megan Suri (Never Have I Ever), and Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows).

A young man (Quaid) and his girlfriend (Thatcher) go to a remote cabin for the weekend with some of his friends. His girlfriend doesn’t know she is an AI robot, until she accidentally kills one of them while defending her life and is told the truth. She is now on the run for her life while her boyfriend and friends are trying to hunt her down.

This is a pretty good dark comedy/thriller. It’s your typical cat and mouse style thriller and once things hit the fan it goes downhill for everyone in the movie fast. It has some good kill scenes, especially a unique one towards the end of the film, which I’m always a fan of. It’s easy to guess what’s going on, but it’s still worth the watch. I give it a 7.5/10

Scream (2022)

“Scream” is the fifth installment in the horror film series “Scream”. This is one is a sequel/remake, or as I learned the term from this movie a requel. They bring back some of the original cast from the first one which includes Neve Campbell (Wild Things), Courteney Cox (Friends), and David Arquette (Never Been Kissed). Outside the originals it also stars Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Jenna Ortega (You), and Dylan Minnette (The Open House).

Twenty-Five Years after the original killings in Woodsboro, Billy Loomis’s daughter is drawn back to Woodsboro after a new Ghostface attacks her sister. Now she must find out who the killer is before it’s too late.

This is about a movie, in a movie, while trying to make a new movie, a little inception, right? Ghostface is from the Stab movies which is based off the Woodsboro murders, and the new Ghostface emerges to fix the last stab movie with a series of murders. Sounds a little confusing, but the writing is very solid, and it’s not as confusing as it sounds. It is full of twists and turns, that keeps you guessing who the killer is. The classic characters also come back and serve a purpose, just not put in for money purposes. Also, Jenna Ortega plays a great part as one of the leads, she’s a great actress. I was actually surprised at how good and well done, this one was. It’s been ten years since the last Scream, and this is the best one in the franchise. I give it a solid 9/10.
