The Fantastic Four: First Steps

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is a 2025 Marvel superhero movie based off the popular Fantastic Four comic book series. This one stars Pedro Pascal (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible-Fallout), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), Julia Garner (Ozark), and Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai).

It’s the 1960’s and four astronauts, who are also family, go into space on a mission. When their suits become compromised, they come back to earth with unique superpowers. They become earth’s protectors. When a powerful being who devours planets comes for earth, it’s up to the Fantastic Four to come up with a plan to stop him before it’s too late.

This looked like it would be good, I’m not a big Fantastic Four fan but Marvel makes great movies so I gave it a try. I like how they stayed true to the comics, and set it in the 60’s. That was a nice touch. There’s not a lot of action in this one, especially for it being a superhero movie, but no pun intended, it’s fantastic. The casting is great all the way through, the story is really good, the writing is phenomenal. It’s a two-hour movie but doesn’t feel any bit of it. There’s not a single part that felt like it lulled. It’s a heartfelt movie, that will have you tearing up, even though you know it turns out okay, you’re still on the edge of your seat. It’s one of the better movies I have seen in a while. They tease there will be a second one, and I can’t wait. This is a must see movie, that I give a 10/10.

A Quiet Place: Day One

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is a 2024 horror movie and third installment and prequel for the horror series “A Quiet Place.” This one stars Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy.)

A woman (Nyong’o) dying of cancer and a young man in law school (Quinn) are both living in NYC when an aliens who possess hypersensitive hearing invade earth. The two become unlikely allies in the fight to survive.

The last one introduced us to the very beginning when the aliens invaded earth, it was just a more rural area. Outside of this one taking place in an extremely populated city, I feel like we already saw the beginning in the last one. The acting is great from Nyong’o and Quinn, and it’s only fitting that Quinn is in this one since the aliens are identical to the Demogorgon’s in ‘Stranger Things.” However, even with these two talented actors, the movie falls flat. We already know you have to be quiet, or the aliens will find you and attack you, we’ve seen this the past two movies. This one doesn’t bring anything new or exciting to the table. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to this one, but if they don’t do anything different, it’s probably time to let this franchise die. I give it a 6/10, and that’s only because Eddie from “Stranger Things” is in it.
