The Last Voyage of the Demeter

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is 2023 horror movie starring Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Aisling Franciosi (The Unforgivable), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon), and David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer).

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is a period style vampire movie. It comes from the captain’s log from the novel “Dracula” following the transportation of Dracula, unbeknownst to the crew, from Romania to London.

The movie opens up with the abandoned Demeter crashing onto the shores of London with everyone on board dead. So, off the bat we know Dracula kills everyone, which is to be expected being stuck out on sea with Dracula. However, this makes it shooting fish in a barrel type movie. Yes, there’s gore and some unique deaths, but overall it’s boring. You just sit around waiting for the next person to get killed, which it makes it rely heavily on jump scares, and the jump scares are not scary. Dracula himself, has major Stephen King “Salem’s Lot” vibes as far as appearance. The one bright spot in this movie is Corey Hawkins. His acting is superb playing his role very well, but it’s not enough to save the Demeter. Overall, it’s a little bit of a letdown. I give it a 6/10.

The Vault

‘The Vault’ is a 2021 action/heist movie starring Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel), Astrid Berges-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Sam Riley (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Liam Cunningham (Clash of the Titans), Luis Tosar (Take My Eyes), and Axel Stein (More Ants in the Pants).

The top engineering student (Highmore) is recruited to help a team break into the Bank of Spain. The Vault is considered impenetrable, and he is the only one that may be able to come up with a solution.

This is an ‘Oceans Eleven’ mixed with ‘Mission Impossible’, they gather their perfect crew for an impossible job. Even though the concept isn’t new, this is a great film. I love Highmore, he’s a great actor, I loved him in ‘Bates Motel’. He plays the same type of character in this, minus the whole psycho aspect. The whole cast is great, and it’s written really well. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole the time, and small aspects that are written in end up playing major roles. Again great writing. You can check this one out on Netflix. I give it a 10/10.
