The Devil and the Daylong Brothers

“The Devil and the Daylong Brothers” is a 2025 thriller/action/musical starring Brendan Bradley (Succubus), Nican Robinson (Thunder Road), Jordon Bolden (The Kill Room), and Rainey Qualley (Queen of Manhattan).

Three Brothers from different mothers but the same dad, have their souls sold by their father before their birth. Now in order to get their souls back, they do the devil’s bidding by hunting down the damned and collecting souls that are owed, while also tracking down their father.

This one is unique. It’s extremely violent while also managing to be a musical. I can’t really think of something to compare it to. It’s like the blue grass band “The Dead South” starred in a thriller. It’s weird, its low budget, but it works. The acting is good, the story is good, and it has you glued to see what happens next. It’s a fun violent ride from start to finish. You can catch this one on Tubi. I give it an 8/10.

Jungle

“Jungle” is a 2017 thriller/biopic starring Daniel Radcliffe (The Lost City), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Alex Russell (Carrie), and Joel Jackson (Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries).

Three friends backpacking in Bolivia, meet up with a guide who takes them deep into a remote Bolivian Jungle. Promising them rivers filled with gold, and undiscovered Indian tribes. Things quickly go horribly wrong, and it becomes a game of survival.

This movie is based on the book with the same name which is the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg and his friends. Yossi survived three weeks on his own in the Amazon Jungle. That’s what makes this movie so crazy is that it really happened, and the real Yossi went through this. It’s nothing short of a miracle that he survived. I’m a Daniel Radcliffe fan; he’s a great actor. He plays the part really well, especially considering a good chunk of the movie is just him going slowly insane. All the actors play a great roll, and it’s a great watch. I give it a 7/10. You can currently catch it on Tubi

The Thicket

“The Thicket” is a 2024 Tubi original Western/Thriller starring Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Juliette Lewis (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation), Levon Hawke (Blink Twice), Esme Creed-Miles (Hanna), Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Taking of Pelham 123), and Leslie Grace (In the Heights).

A young man (Hawke) has his sister taken by an outlaw called cut throat Bill (Lewis). He ends up getting help from an unlikely trio (Dinklage, Akinnagbe, and Grace) in order to track her down and rescue her from cut throat Bill before it’s too late.

Tubi originals can be hit or miss, but I enjoy a good Western and it has a good cast so I gave it a go. Peter Dinklage of course plays a great roll, he’s a fantastic actor. He play a no nonsense gunslinger. Akinnagbe also plays a fantastic part as Dinklage’s friend who rides out with him. The Juliette Lewis casting was a little odd to me, she doesn’t play a bad part, but I just kept seeing as Audrey from Christmas Vacation and not a blood thirsty outlaw. Also, I found Hawke to be a little whiny. It has good action, and the pacing is well. Overall, it’s a solid western. I give it a 7.5/10.

Pawn Shop Chronicles

“Pawn Shop Chronicles” is a 2013 action/comedy/thriller with an impressive cast starring Paul Walker (The Fast and the Furious), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), Matt Dillion (You, Me and Dupree), Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket), DJ Qualls (The New Guy), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and Brendan Fraser (The Whale).

“Pawn Shop Chronicles” is an anthology featuring three different stories revolving around a pawn shop. It features a man who finds his wife’s ring who he believes to be dead, and it results on him going on a wild chase. A meth head who sells his shotgun, and it turns out he needs it. Finally, an Elvis impersonator who is just looking for a lucky break and sells his gold chain that he claims was owned by the King himself.

I haven’t heard of this movie before, but I saw it on Tubi and gave it a shot only because of the loaded cast. I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I didn’t have a bar set going in. The movie and stories are pretty crazy. There’s violence, explosions, blood, and comedy. It even has Brendan Fraser as Elvis, it has it all. All the stories are intertwined, which I always find cool when movies do that. It’s a good hidden gem. I give it a 7/10.

The Last Exit

“The Last Exit” is a 2023 original thriller by Tubi, it stars Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Neil Linpow (One More Shot), Sadie Soverall (Saltburn), and Harry Cadby (Red Rose).

Two brothers wind up at the door of a farmhouse on a stormy night. One is on the brink of death, and both are on the run with a duffle bag full of money. Little do they know, this house may be more trouble than what they are already in.

I love Tubi, there is so many hidden treasures to be found. However, they aren’t really known for their original movies. Most are Hallmarkesque at best. This one is a hidden gem. The acting is solid, the story is good, and it is filled with enough twists to keep you guessing. It’s dark but not overdone. You know something wrong is going on, but you can’t really put your finger on the extent of it until the very end. It’s a great watch for any thriller fan. Well done, Tubi. I give it an 8/10.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

I have another offbeat Christmas movie coming at you, tis the season. “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale” is a 2010 Christmas Adventure/Horror movie from Finland starring Jorma Tommila (The Christmas Party), Onni Tommila (Big Game), Tommi Korpela (Distractions), and IImari Jarvenpaa (Last Cowboy Standing).

High up in the mountains in Finland, an archeological crew is digging and blasting into the mountains. Unknowingly, they unearth something that has been frozen for centuries. It’s Santa Claus, and it’s not the one we’ve come to know and love. It’s now up to one boy to save his small mountain town before it’s too late.

This is an interesting concept. A great ancient evil that is accidentally released into the world, we’ve seen a million movies like this, but I haven’t seen one where the evil is Santa Claus. It is from Finland, but it’s subtitled and not dubbed. Which is great, most dubbed movies tend to bug me. It’s labeled as a horror but nothing really scary or suspenseful happens, it’s more along the lines of a fantasy or adventure. The main character is a nerdy, loner type kid, just trying to make his dad proud and ends up overcoming obstacles along the way. It’s an intriguing movie, and it’s well done. Not anything real special, like I mentioned nothing scary or suspenseful really takes place. It’s still worth a watch though, you can catch it on Tubi. I give it a 6.5/10.

Find Me Guilty

“Find Me Guilty” is a 2006 Comedy/Drama/Biopic starring Vin Diesel (The Fast and Furious), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Ron Silver (The West Wing).

“Find Me Guilty” is about the longest trial in American history that took place in the late 1980’s and about Jackie DiNorscio (Vin Diesel), a mobster who acted as his own lawyer and defended himself during the trial.

I hadn’t heard of this one before, but I saw a clip of it on Facebook. It looked like it would be good, and it’s on Tubi so, I figured I would give it a shot. I hadn’t heard of the RICO trial before where a large number of mobsters were facing prison time in the 1980s, but it is an interesting story, and I’m always down for a good mob flick. The cool thing about this movie is not only is it based on a true story, but a large chunk of the dialogue used in the film was actually from the trial itself. Vin Diesel isn’t known for his great acting skills, but he knocks it out of the park playing Jackie DiNorscio, a smart mouthed yet loveable gangster. You end up finding yourself pulling for him. Overall, it’s a great watch. I give it an 8/10.

Greater

“Greater” is 2016 is a sports biography drama/comedy starring Neal McDonough (Yellowstone), Leslie Easterbrook (The Devil’s Rejects), Fredric Lehne (American Horror Story), and Christopher Severio (Suit Up).

“Greater” is the true story about Brandon Burlsworth who was an offensive tackle for the Arkansas Razorbacks and is considered the greatest walk on in the history of college football.

I hadn’t heard of this movie before or the story of Brandon Burlsworth but I came across it on Tubi and it looked like it would be good, so I gave it a shot. It’s one of those motivational movies where against all odds the main character prevails by overcoming their past and whatever obstacles they face. It’s cheesy writing with the dialogue and very hallmark-esque. Even so, it’s still pretty good, and though you know the outcome that he ends up being a starter and one of the best walk-on’s ever, you still find yourself routing for Brandon. It’s not as good of a football movie as say “Invincible” or “Remember the Titans” but it still deserves its place among motivational sports movies. The acting from Severio and McDonough plus the story line makes it worth it. I give it a 7/10.

The Final Rose

“The Final Rose” is a Tubi original horror/thriller starring Christina Masterson (Truth or Dare), Brytni Sarpy (The Young and the Restless), Carrie Alexander (Paper Tiger), Taylor Foster (Saving Sloane), Robert Palmer Watkins (General Hospital), and Roger Howarth (General Hospital).

Jess Rose is a single mom with a seven-year-old who is struggling to find love. Her brother enters her to be a contestant on “Love at Last”. A “Bachelor” style game show where the women are eliminated one by one till one final girl is left and chosen by the bachelor, or as it is called in this movie the “Beau.” Only one problem though, the other girls start getting killed off one by one.

Tubi isn’t exactly known for having quality original movies. Most appear cheaply made and are more like Hallmark original type movies. This one isn’t too bad though. It’s a slasher movie with a unique plot that I can get behind. The acting is pretty good too, especially from Christina Masterson. She has the acting skills to be a good “final girl”. Now does it have its cheesy parts, of course and the gore looks very fake, but it does its job of being entertaining and keeps you watching. Main problem is it is a little slow for a slasher. It focuses more on the “reality show” than the killings. Which the reality show is entertaining but, I would rather be watching a slasher instead of a straight up “The Bachelor” show. If it switched gears and did this, it would have been a great horror movie. Overall, it’s entertaining. I give it a 6/10.

Corrective Measures (2022)

“Corrective Measures” is a 2022 Tubi original sci-fi/action movie based on the graphic novel. It stars Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Tom Cavanagh (Scrubs), Brennan Mejia (The Dead Girls Detective Agency), and Dan Payne (Watchmen).

Super villains exist and run amok. A top notch, high security prison is developed to house these super villains and get them off the street. It houses the baddest of the bad including the Lobe (Willis) who single handedly created a pulse that wreaked havoc worldwide and caused Australia to disappear in the ocean. This prison is run by a corrupt warden (Rooker) who goes by the name the Overseer. The Overseer is close to retirement and plans on extorting billions from the Lobe before he does. However, the Lobe has different plans.

This movie doesn’t have a lot of love on IMDb with a 4.8 out of 10. After I watched the opening scene, I could see why. It was beyond cheesy, the writing, the acting, all of it. I thought what have I got myself into. However, after that it gets pretty good. Sure, it still has its cheesy parts, but it’s unique, and interesting enough to keep your attention. The writing is actually pretty solid, with some good twists thrown in. All of the villains have unique powers that make it fun as well. I enjoyed this movie. I think they should have maybe opened up the movie with someone other than Payback (Payne), he was the cheesiest. I don’t agree with IMDb on this one. It’s a fun watch, and I give it an 8/10.
