The Man Who Killed Hitler Then the Bigfoot.

I have an obscure one for you. “The Man Who Killed Hitler Then the Bigfoot” is a 2018 Drama/ Sci-Fi starring Sam Elliott (The Big Lebowski), Aidan Turner (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), and Larry Miller (10 Things I Hate About You).

“The Man Who Killed Hitler Then the Bigfoot” follows the story of a WWII vet (Elliott) who went on a secret mission and assassinated Hitler. Now an old man, who is lonely and doesn’t feel like he has much left to live for is once again called upon by his country to hunt down bigfoot and kill the monster. Bigfoot is carrying a type of plague that is wiping out wildlife and it’s starting to spread and kill off humans. Elliott is humanities last hope.

This sounds like one those awful cheesy Sci-Fi movies that shouldn’t exist. Where they mash up two things that shouldn’t be together and it is just a mess, like “Sharknado”. This has Sam Elliott in it though, and he’s a respectable actor, so I figured I would give it a shot. It was definitely different than I was expecting. It’s slower than expected and more on the drama side than anything else. Sure, it had its cheesy moments, I mean the plot is ridiculous, where else are you going to see Sam Elliott fight bigfoot? It’s original though, which I like that. Despite the name of the title, it doesn’t focus a whole lot on Hitler or bigfoot just more on Elliot’s life. It’s not a bad watch, like I mentioned just slower and different than I was expecting. You can currently catch it on Tubi. I give it a 6/10

Vampire’s Kiss

I’m going old school with this one, all the way back to 1989 to “Vampire’s Kiss”. I’m actually a little surprised I haven’t seen this one before. “Vampire’s Kiss” is a 1989 Dark Comedy starring Nicholas Cage (National Treasure), Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man), Jennifer Beals (The Book of Eli), and Elizabeth Ashley (Just Getting Started).

A publishing executive (Cage) is bitten by a bat in his apartment, who he believes is a vampire. He starts to experience erratic behavior and starts to spiral out of control. Unfortunately for his secretary, she becomes the object of his focus.

This is easily the most ridiculous movie I have ever seen, and the whole reason is because of Nicholas Cage. It’s also one of the funniest movies I have ever seen because of him too. His acting is so over the top it is insane. All the eye popping and erratic memes you have seen of him is from this film. His facial expressions and body language are enough to make you cry with laughter. Nicholas Cage is supposed to be pretty eccentric in real life, I imagine this is how he really is just walking around. This film is going to leave you asking more questions than what it gives answers for, but just because how ridiculous he is in this, it’s worth it. It’s easily a movie I could watch over and over. Magic

Going to go old school with this one. “Magic” is a 1978 horror/drama starring Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), Ann-Margret (Grumpy Old Men), Burgess Meredith (Rocky), and Ed Lauter (Not Another Teen Movie).

A ventriloquist (Hopkins) who’s on the fast track to stardom goes into hiding when he’s required to take a medical test for a big contract. He’s afraid the doctors will find out he’s crazy and can’t control his ventriloquist dummy. While in hiding he rekindles a spark with an old crush who happens to be married. Things start to snowball downhill very fast while there.

I wouldn’t necessarily classify this one as a horror, maybe a thriller. It’s a horror in the same sense of the movie “Psycho” is. It’s a slow burn, it doesn’t have the jump scenes, mass killings, or gore. It’s also really similar to “Psycho” in the aspect of the schizophrenia angle with a good twist ending. Hopkins could be Norman Bates brother in this. It boasts a legendary cast with Hopkins, Margret, and Meredith. I always get excited when I see Burgess Meredith in a different role, I didn’t know he was in. This is a great watch if you haven’t seen it and in perfect time for Halloween. Gatlopp: Hell of a Game

“Gatlopp: Hell of a Game” is a 2022 comedy/horror starring Jim Mahoney (The Orville), Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy), Jon Bass (Sword of Trust), Sarunas J. Jackson (Games People Play).

Four good friends get back together as adults for a fun night after one of them is going through a divorce. It’s a night filled with drinking, and they decided to play a board game that is a drinking game. The game turns out to be paranormal and they must do exactly as it says or suffer dire consequences. One of them must win the game before sunrise or they will be forced to play it for all eternity.

I wouldn’t exactly classify this one as a horror but more of a dark comedy. It doesn’t have any big names in it, but they all play a good part, and the acting is solid. It’s like a messed up adult version of Jumanji that makes them expose their deepest and darkest secrets that they’ve kept from each other. Ultimately it brings them closer, so it has a good message. True friendship can overcome and endure all. It’s a little cheesier and more lighthearted than it sounded like it would be, but it’s a good watch. You can watch it on Tubi. I give it a 6.5/10.
