The Out-Laws

“The Out-Laws” is a 2023 original Netflix comedy starring Adam Devine (Workaholics), Pierce Brosnan (Tomorrow Never Dies), Ellen Barkin (The Cobbler), Nina Dobrev (Love Hard), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Richard Kind (Spin City), Lauren Lapkus (The Wrong Missy), and Lil Rel Howery (Uncle Drew).

A strait-laced bank manager (Devine) is excited when he finally gets the chance to meet his fiancé’s parents before their wedding. When his bank gets robbed, he has reason to believe his in-laws are the robbers. After his fiancé gets kidnapped due to old debts, he must now help his in-laws rob the top state of the art bank in order to get enough money to get his fiancé back.

The plot is outlandish with a lot of loopholes, and the comedy is dumb. Which the comedy part is to be expected with Devine. The juvenile dumb comedy is his thing, and he’s good at it. With all that said the movie accomplishes its job by being entertaining. It has several laugh out loud moments. Just don’t look too much into it and take the movie at face value. It’s just a lighthearted, funny movie. I give it a 7.5/10

The Curse of Bridge Hollow

“The Curse of Bridge Hollow” is Netflix’s newest Halloween themed movie. It’s a 2022 family/comedy starring Marlon Wayans (White Chicks), Priah Ferguson (Stranger Things), Kelly Rowland (Empire), John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect), Lauren Lapkus (The Wrong Missy), and Rob Riggle (Holey Moley).

A teenage girl (Ferguson), her mom (Rowland), and her dad (Wayans) move to a small town from the city around Halloween time. The small town is all about Halloween and all the houses deck out their yards in decorations. The girl accidently unleashes an ancient spirit who brings all the yard decorations in town to life. She now must team up with her dad, who doesn’t believe in the paranormal but only science, to stop the curse before it’s too late.

I like Priah Ferguson, she’s great in “Stranger Things”, and I also like Marlon Wayans, he’s a very funny dude. It also looks like it would be good, an original concept. However, it’s not funny and just seems to be a rip off of “Goosebumps” with Jack Black but not near as good. It didn’t seem to know its target audience. It’s labeled a family film, but it appears to be too scary for kids, maybe not older kids, but not scary enough to be a horror. It also drops a couple of random curse words that don’t seem to be family friendly but again too dumb/not scary to be for adults either. It just falls in that weird void. Instead of battling R.L. Stein’s monsters in “Goosebumps” they run around defeating yard decorations while maintaining too not being funny. It sets up for a sequel at the end, but I hope Netflix spares us from that atrocity. I would give this one a pass this Halloween. I give it a 5/10.

The Wrong Missy

‘The Wrong Missy’ is Netflix’s new comedy starring David Spade (Joe Dirt), and Lauren Lapkus ( The Big Bang Theory). It’s currently number one in the U.S. for Netflix. Tim (Spade) goes on a blind date with Melissa (Lapkus), Melissa turns out to be beyond crazy and Tim hopes to never see her again. He ends up inviting her to Hawaii by mistake after meeting another Melissa. He texts the blind date by mistake thinking it is the new Melissa and now Tim is stuck in Hawaii on a corporate retreat with the crazy one.

‘The Wrong Missy’ is a Happy Madison production. You know when it’s a Happy Madison production, Adam Sandler is going to bring the whole crew. I love it, I love how he uses pretty much the same actors in all Happy Madison productions. ‘The Wrong Missy’ isn’t any different, other than David Spade it has Nick Swardson, Jackie Sandler, Rob Schneider, Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Loughran, Jared Sandler, and Vanilla Ice. You watch any Adam Sandler film you’re going to see one or several of these guys in it.

The film is a little on the crude side, if you don’t like those type of movies this ones not for you. It’s pretty good, Lauren Lapkus steals the show with her crazy part. She has you saying WTF more than once, it also has its laugh out loud parts. I give it a 6.5/10
